On Wednesday, ex-husband of renowned Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for deputy governor of Lagos state Abdulrasheed Bello, also known as JJC Skillz, celebrated her 45th birthday.
Akindele and Bello wed in 2016, but on June 30, the Nigerian singer-songwriter announced the dissolution of their six-year union in a post on his verified Instagram.
The next month, Olajide Adediran Jandor, a PDP candidate for governor of Lagos state, revealed the actress commonly known as Jenifa as his running mate.
The actress’s marital problems and current political aspirations have sparked media responses.
On Wednesday, JJC Skillz joined in the celebration of the multi-award-winning Akindele by wishing her a happy birthday on Instagram.“Happy birthday my darling mama Ibeji. I pray our children embody the goodness of God and be a blessing to generations. Today is your day, celebrate and live to the fullest. Long life and prosperity,” JJC Skillz said.

According to research, various government security organizations operating throughout the nation have recovered stolen oil worth N86.2 billion in August.
On Monday, it was claimed that members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps had recovered 16, 000 litres of diesel worth N800/litre (N12.8m) in Cross River.
The majority of the stolen goods, which were automotive gas oil, popularly known as diesel, according to Rivers State NSCDC Commandant Samuel Fadeyi, were found within the last two weeks.
Additionally, the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Seme Area Command reported intercepting 3,998 jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, each containing 30 litres, or 119,940 litres, on last Wednesday.
According to Bello Mohammed Jibo, the Customs Area Controller, the products were roughly four tanker loads, each containing 33,000 liters. A price of N191 per litre of PMS( highest range) was recently approved by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, or (NMDPRA). Nigeria would have lost almost N161m if the 119, 940 liters had made it to the Republic of Benin.The duty-paid value of the petroleum product that was seized was N28.9 million.In contrast to Nigeria, where the Federal Government provides subsidies for petrol, one litre of petrol costs N396 in the Republic of Benin at the moment.
The 119, 940 liters of petrol would have brought at least N47 million in sales if they had made it to the neighboring nation without incident.From 2006 to 2018, the Federal Government alone spent N9.84 trillion on gasoline subsidies. Additionally, a new N4 trillion had been spent as of this year.
As at July, estimated subsidies on petrol was N2trn in seven months. Although Nigeria consumes 60 million liters of gasoline per month, a source familiar with the situation had revealed that as of April, marketers had been loading up to 106 million liters per month, bringing the total amount of smuggled gasoline to 46 million liters per month.
This last week too, the Nigerian Navy confirmed that MV HEROIC IDUN, a supertanker, had been detained by Equatorial Guinean authorities for allegedly stealing crude oil from Nigeria.
When the actions of the group were discovered by Navy agents, it retreated from Nigeria’s AKPO Oil Field.The 299,995 MT supertanker has the International Maritime Organization identification number 9858058.The tanker’s overall crude oil capacity is 2.1 million metric tons, or slightly more than seven barrels of crude oil.
Last week, the price of Brent International was $96 per barrel. Bonny Light, a crude oil grade from Nigeria, typically sells for $1 or more more than Brent.If Bonny Light had been $97/b last week, 2.1 million barrels would have sold for $204 million, or N86 billion.
The total estimated loss from reported oil theft this month alone comes to at least N86.2 billion when you add the N161 million that would have been made from the petrol seized at Benin Republic, the N86 billion from crude oil intercepted by the Navy, and the N12.8 million from the recovered 16, 000 liters of diesel by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Cross River.
Clement Isong, spokesman for the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria(MOMAN), Elder Chinedu Okoronkwo, president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria(IPMAN), and Mike Asatuyi, National Operations Controller, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, DAPPMAN, have all defended their members’ involvement in the smuggling of gasoline to surrounding nations.
“It is definitely not a good thing to use all revenue to service debts, and those debts are coming from subsidies. It is a potential danger for the country.
My worry is that what we were avoiding- the suffering and inflation that we were avoiding- by not removing the subsidy will now be worse, because if we get to a point where we find it difficult to service our debts, what it means is that our lenders will charge us more interests because they know we don’t have money. Their interests will be much higher, with less revenue to pay salaries. So, from a financial standpoint, it is not good news for Nigeria,” a former chairman of the Major Oil Marketers of Nigeria, MOMAN, Tunji Oyebanji, said when asked about the impact of the Federal Government’s continuous payment of subsidies.
Olalekan Olafuyi, a Professor of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Benin and the Chairman of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Nigeria Council, made the shocking revelation last Sunday. He estimated that 2000 trucks of crude oil are lost in Nigeria every day.
“Crude oil theft is a bad omen for the country. The Society is already discussing with NIMASA to see how we can strategise in terms of telling them the strategy that can be employed in monitoring production, because crude oil theft is quite huge. Imagine the country losing 500, 000 barrels per day. One barrel is about 160 litres. One truck/tanker is 250 barrels. So, if you say we are losing about 500, 000 barrels, you can imagine that we are losing about 2000 trucks every day,” he said.
Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa state, has attacked Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state as the PDP’s turmoil worsens ahead of the 2023 general election. In an interview with Channels Television, Lamido said that PDP “should forget about Wike” because he doesn’t control the Rivers electorate exclusively. He insisted that even if Wike considers himself to be the Emperor of Rivers state, that will not help the party win votes in that state.
“He hasn’t got it. Rivers people are also PDP in their own right. They were there in 1999 when he joined. They were there when he was council chairman.
“Therefore, because he’s a governor, he now thinks he is their emperor, it can’t work. There is a Wike in every part of Nigeria who is a governor.
Lamido said; “Wike is an individual, I don’t think because he is a governor there he has control and monopoly over the peoples of Rivers.
“Leave Wike alone. He has the right to do whatever he wants. He can give order to people in Rivers who are enslaved to him. But right now if you go to Rivers, they are contesting for the governorship seat there, it was Wike who imposed the current candidate and nobody questioned that.”
According to the Socialist Workers & Youth League, the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ strike action has continued as a result of the Federal Government’s alleged unwillingness to prioritize funding for education.
Recall that ASUU began its nationwide strike action since February 14, 2022, making the strike up to 191 days today. In a statement released on Tuesday by its National Chairperson and Secretary, Frances Akinjole and Kevinci Ayemhenre, the organization explained reason for the prolonged duration of the strike as “the FG’s disregard for public education in Nigeria and contempt for collective agreements.”
The statement read, “The ASUU strike action has now lasted for more than 180 days. The only reason why this is the case is because of the Federal Government’s disregard for public education in Nigeria, and contempt for collective agreements.
“The concerns raised by ASUU are issues relating to the need for adequate funding towards the revitalisation of tertiary institutions. These include the demand for 26 per cent of budgetary expenditure to be allocated to the educational sector.
“The lecturers have also stood their grounds against the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System, which among other things contribute to illegal deductions from their pay.
“Instead of addressing the issues raised and implement the long‐standing 2009 or the renegotiated Collective Agreement in line with the subsequent Memorandum of Action, government has resorted to blackmail.
“They have tried to reduce the grouse of lecturers to salaries, throwing the bone of a miserly increment unilaterally arrived at, to bolster government’s blackmail.
“As if that were not enough, government and its cheerleaders are invoking a “no work, no pay” spectre, which government lacks the political or moral right to raise.
“The organisation asked Nigerians in general, particularly youth “not be deceived by the government’s devious machinations,” claiming that the priorities of Nigeria’s ruling class were more of a concern than a shortage of funds for high-quality public tertiary education as desired by ASUU.
“It is imperative to note that a society that does not place premium on education is bound to be faced with the ills and hassles of illiteracy and by extension insecurity, banditry, terrorism and all other vices,” it said. The SWL called on the government to immediately comply with the demands of ASUU.
“We also urge continued popular support for ASUU which has consistently been at the fore of the struggle for education as a right and not a privilege and the fight to win a better society.
“The people must rally around ASUU at this time in our current political epoch and call on the FG to take education as the cornerstone for societal development which is a fundamental right largely enshrined in our constitution.SWL, thus, reiterates its solidarity with ASUU in fighting for the common good of all,” the statement concluded.

Thereafter, Rabiu briefed the President on the activities of his foundation, The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) during which he also announced the donation of a N10billion Nigeria Security Support Fund from ASR Africa towards the provision of some security equipment, medical and other supplies, upgrade of health facilities and other infrastructure for families of those on the frontlines.
